Nice lead in line with the rocks, if have liked to have seen it from a lower down perspective and maybe in landscape. Nice shot though dude :)

Oh a star trail shot (+30S exp) would be nice but also so might just a standard star shot (-30S exp to avoid star blur focus on infinity-google for more info), maybe try both. its something im looking into trying soon. i dont know if you have them but im guessing you do for some dusk shots, put on a couple of ND filters to "still" the water, maybe even an ND grad to capture more sky detail (dont know if ND Grad works with star trails) and you should have a nice couple of shots.

Looking forward to seeing the results :)

I used a 10 stop ND filter for this photograph and an ND grad for the sky. I find it also brings out more colour when such a long exposure is used to with the filter (B+W ND110). This shot was about 4 minutes.

As for using an ND grad with a star-trail, that wouldn't work but you also wouldn't need to. As with each shot, the sky gets darker and darker with the brighter area getting closer to the horizon each time, you end up with a gradual change from light at the horizon to dark at the top of the frame when you stack them in photoshop.

Keep watching my profile, I'll hopefully have it in the next few weeks depending on whether I can get there or not :)

cool, i look forward to it. I think your probably a bit further on in your understanding of photography than I am. im just starting out, been doing it with a half decent camera for about coming up to 2 years, i like your compositions they are nice, i see how you frame the shot its a good learning point.

It's 5 years this month since I picked up my first DSLR (A Pentax IST DL). I hated that camera so I bought a Canon. I've pretty much taught myself everything using the internet and mainly this site.
You have some really nice photos in your gallery by the way! I use sites like this for inspiration and I'll stare at a photo for ages and try to figure out the technique they used, it's a very useful tool to have.
I also recently did an evening course at my local college on photography, it was very useful.

I do exactly the same, and thanks for the compliment. I always see the bad points of my photos and im always unsure of posting them up.

Im a canon man too :)

I really should enrol at a college course for photography, i just think that most of it i can learn online for free. would you advise doing it?

You can get it all free online. I dont know what the cost is as i was 17 so got on free anyway. What i found useful was being able to ask te tutor and be shown things in person and also the creativity onspired by other students.

It's good to be able to see the ba points as it really helps you improve, but i find its best to let otter people judge sometimes. Most of my competition winning photos have been ones i dont like and the ones i do like dont do well.
